A Little About My Sewing Journey

A Little About My Sewing Journey

Have you ever thought, I wish I could sew?! But I just don't know where to begin! Have you said I'm not creative enough?! Well first of all you CAN DO It! Look! I started sewing as a child in a 4H Sewing Class. I didn't have any supplies at all. I eventually used a shoe box as my sewing box! As I learned what supplies I needed I eventually did get them. Before I left the 4H Class I was able to sew outfits. YES, a whole Outfit! Then later in years I took Home Ec. where I made Pillows. I was hooked. Through the years I have worked on lots of different projects. Pillows, Curtains, Clothing, and Aprons. Probably missing something but you get the idea. I really enjoy sewing! It's therapeutic for sure. I forget about all the worries as I'm  sewing. Stayed tuned for how sewing can be therapeutic in a future Blog! So, back to the topic. I really enjoy sewing a lot! I'm going to fast-forward to adult hood. At this point in my life, I was ready for a career change. I had done many things in my life but nothing really exciting. I was looking for a way to work but not really. I was told "If You Do What You Love You Will Never Work Another Day in Your Life." That's what I wanted was to enjoy what I do. I didn't want it to be just a Job that I had to go to because it was a paycheck.  I wanted more than just a paycheck. I wanted to be creative, design, and sew of course. At this time, I was cleaning houses and commercial locations. Sounds Fun Right!? Not hardly! Not much Creativity being used while scrubbing toilets! Just Sayin! Fast forward about 20 years from starting the cleaning business to the present. I had a vision to start a sewing business. I couldn't decide a niche though. I want to do it ALL! So, there was a quilt show coming up and I decided to check it out. By the way I had Never Quilted before in my life, but something was drawing me to check it out. So, I did. I didn't realize at the time that this was that path to my next business venture. I went into that Vendor Hall and WOW! I started to wonder. It was overwhelming at first. Again, I knew absolutely nothing about Quilting! As I'm wondering around, I notice several Long- Arm Quilting Machines. I was intrigued. They were very intimidating. I had never seen one in person. I got close to one and the sales lady came over and asked if I would like to try it out. I immediately said ow no I'm afraid I would break it I've never used one. I was afraid of it. It looked to be way over my head. She said you can do it. You really should try it out. I explained that I had never even seen one before. She insisted that I try to write my name. I chuckled a little. I said ma'am I can't write my name clearly with a pin! She laughed. She encouraged me to try it out. She showed me how move it. So, here we go I did it! I wrote my name! I couldn't believe it I had Quilted my name! And you could actually read it! She was very kind to say "Are you sure you have never done this before?! I said no ma'am never. She said, "Well you're a natural". I don't know about that but thank you for your kind words. That was it, I was hooked on Quilting! I wasn't long after that I purchased a Long Arm Quilting Machine and went into business! Listen, I said all this to say never give up or think you can't! If There is a Will There is a WAY! Don't let Fear or Can't stand in Your WAY! I'm living proof that if you have a Dream and a Will, you can do it! I'm just a small-town girl with Big Dreams! I had no idea what I was doing but I knew I wanted to do it so I did! And So Can You! There's more to this story! This was the short version! HaHa! Maybe I'll share the whole story some day! I hope you will continue to follow me on social media as well as my Blog! Thanks for taking the time to read a little about my Sewing Journey!
